Zoology is such branch of life science that provides wide opportunity in research field; a single animal cell is a mysterious box, every animal except human being is a useful element in nature. A single animal or group of animal can fulfill the basic needs of human being if utilized in proper way. They can be utilized for promoting cottage industries for rural and urban students. Don’t do service but become owner and create jobs to others. Some examples of cottage industries based on animals are as follows.
i) Earthworms: By using earthworms make vermicompost and vermiculture in small investment and earn monthly a considerable amount.
ii) Silkworms: start culturing of silkworms, sale cocoons and eggs (seeds).
iii) Honey bees: Start beekeeping, maintain apiaries, sale bee boxes and bee products, higher bee boxes for pollination in farms to farmers for pollination of crop.
iv) Hens and chicken: These birds keeping is poultry farming which provides eggs, manure and food to society
v) Cattles: Keeping cattle lead to development of dairy products and you can earn money.
vi) Rabbit: Keeping rabbits can earn money.
vii) Fish: By keeping fish, aquatic animals provide food to society, sale fish, fish products, fish seeds, and aquaria.
viii) Parasitoids like tachinid flies, trichogramma and other Hyenopteran and Dipteran Insects: By culturing these insects which are useful to control Helicoverpa and other lepidopteran pest insects.
ix) Helicoverpa: By culturing NPV virus affected larvae of H. armigera Heliokill can be produced to control pod borers.
x) Daphnia: This crustacean is good pollution indicator of water and food for fisheries farms. These are also used for studying drug effects. Its culture can be sold to medical colleges, research institutes and fishery farms.
xi) Drosophila: fruit flies culture is useful for genetical experiments in colleges and research institutes.
xii) Crabs and other crustaceans: These animals provide food to human beings these are still being used by tribal peoples as medicines for joint pains and arthritis.
The list is endless multiply animals, use them, release them, conserve them, and conserve the nature. For small scale agro based cottage industries State and Central Government provide subsidies and funds.
